Mykonos is one of the most popular and glamorous Greek Isles following Santorini. It’s better known around the world for its party hard atmosphere and diverse, upscale crowds.
The island is a traditional whitewashed Cycladic maze with endless cafe-bars and beach parties. It’s one of those places where it is what you make of it. It can be romantic, luxurious, crazy, wild, adventurous or relaxing. I think that’s what I love about Mykonos – there’s something for everyone. If you are planning a visit to the island, here’s a quick guide to help you become more familiar with its attractions, party life, accommodation and beaches!
Things to do
Elia Beach offers the best in beach culture as one of the largest beaches, located 8 kilometres from the town of Mykonos. The Windmills are located on the western side of town and are considered an icon of Mykonos. Here is where you can also enjoy the best sunset view in Mykonos, overlooking Little Venice below as the night culture begins to kick in to gear.
Book into Scorpios a tres chic beachside restaurant. This place has nailed the boho/modern design completely and reflects that cool factor that Mykonos is more and more becoming known for. Hang out here all day, rent day beds, sip on rosé , you get the vibe.
Principote head here early in the day to enjoy a lunch, refreshing cocktails and sun-soaked loungers with breathtaking views and tunes, come early and stay til late.
Have a lazy afternoon at Agia Anna Beach and enjoy one of the best lunches of your life, at the beautiful cliffside restaurant Spilia. This was by far the most impressive place I've eaten at in Mykonos.
Little Venice is next on the list of things to see, known for its medieval two and three story houses on the water. This is a great place to grab a drink and enjoy watching the sunset, from where you can also view the windmills above. The town is just by the water here where locals refer to it as chora, you'll loose yourself in these stunning alleyways and boutiques.
Nammos it won’t get any more over-the-top than this. Whether you’re relaxing on Psarou beach or partying under the hot sun, fun is guaranteed. In summer, Nammos’ beautiful sandy bay transforms into a hedonistic party zone with crowds flirting and dancing (on table tops) the night away.
Panagia Paraportiani is the most impressive church in town and also a great photo opportunity.
Stay
I stayed at the Poseidon which was a short walk from Chora (Mykonos Town) – a lovely spot with a great pool and delicious buffet style breakfast.Tips
Avoid hiring an ATV and invest in getting a car instead. Turns out they can barely get up hills and we saw lots of people struggling. We hired a smart car and it was the best idea we could've had.
Know that during some times of the year the wind is really strong on the island.
The Greeks drink these amazing coffee frappes, make sure to have 974297420 of them.
There’s no doubt you’ll pass gyros every few minutes in Mykonos, but Jimmy’s Gyros is the Gyros place. It’s iconic and known for being the best on the island.
As you guys know, I always upload my favourite photos from every trip onto Instagram. The streets and beaches of Mykonos are just so picturesque, you would’ve witnessed quite a few uploads if you’re following along!
